Rufftown signee Wendy Shay on Monday 5th July, 2021 made some revelations as to why she was absent in the just ended VGMA.
According to her, “We have an Artiste in the Industry and we have an Industry in the Artiste. There are some Artiste who do not deserve what they get, but the industry loves them and pampers them. It has to be very obvious that I am going to win an award. For instance, when I came to the industry, everybody knew my songs, they were everywhere. It would have been a problem if I didn’t win the ‘New Artiste of the year’. For that, as an artiste in the industry, people knew I deserved it.”
The comments made by the singer seem not to settle well with most of the industry players. One of such people is an entertainment pundit Kofi Asamoah.
Speaking to Sammy Flex, host of Showbiz Agenda on Zylofon 102.1 FM, Kofi Asamoah said the industry has shown massive support to all Rufftown record label signees, adding that “the industry has supported any artiste coming from Rufftown record. Late Ebony is a reference point to you (Wendy Shay). Don’t think you (Wendy Shay) are an industry artist because you did not win an award. With all the trolling on social media, you were still topping weekly chats.”
The filmmaker added that, whoever coined the term “We have an Artiste in the Industry and we have an Industry in the Artiste” for the singer did not do due diligence in explaining it to her. He said “you have to work for your name. Wendy does not need to work for it because Bullet has worked for it. The term was not needed. Whoever coined that term didn’t help you with the explanation.”
“It takes a lot for the industry to help you. Maybe you have not gotten there yet. It will reach a level you will be irrelevant. Your work must be at a level of being pampered. It must be at the defense of bloggers, presenters,” he said.
