A day never go by without gunshots being reported in the vicinity of Pantang Hospital, compelling nurses and other health workers to flee for their safety.
Reports indicated that the east wing of the health facility which houses the nurses, has recorded most of the cases that have to do with land guards attacks
According to an eyewitness, land guards operating in the area, have taken their unsanctioned behavior to the hospital, where they have unloaded their rage on employees and bystanders.
On Monday, June 28, nurses and other hospital personnel boycotted their jobs out of fear of a second wave of land guard attacks.
According to a resident of Pantang [name withheld], another potential landlord who went to supervise an ongoing works on his plot, was pursued by land guards until he took sanctuary at the hospital last week.
Nicholas Annor, a Senior Physician Assistant and representative of the Ghana Physician Association at Pantang Hospital and one of the leaders of the Pantang Nurses Association, confirmed the incident to 3FM in an interview monitored by MynewsAfric.com
“We are avoiding danger. At the OPD, there have been incidents of gunshots and a sequence of them. If this had struck somebody, we would have filed a death report. We came here to work, not to become embroiled in this shamble. This poses a risk to our nurses.”
He said, “Occasionally, the guys arrive on motorcycles. There are nurses who come in the afternoon, and as they leave for home, they come across guys who demand that they hand their phones and baggage. Several have knife wounds, and the two nursing education institutions’ rooms have been bugled.”
Several petitions have been submitted to the Chief of Staff and the Ministry of the Interior but nothing has been done so far, he said.
