A 21-year-old unemployed man has been arrested on suspicions of using the name and photos of Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to solicit funds from individuals interested in joining the Ghana Armed Forces.
Sabastine Agbemabiese was accused with impersonating a public officer and charlatanic advertisement at an Accra Circuit Court. The accused pleaded not guilty and was released on GH70, 000 bail with three sureties, two of whom must be justified.
Mrs. Evelyn Asamoah, presiding over the Court, ordered the accused to reappear on June 29. According to the prosecution, led by Detective Frederick Sarpong, the complaint in the case was Finance Minister.
He stated that in May this year, the complainant’s attention was directed to multiple bogus social media accounts with his likeness. According to him, the accused person was allegedly soliciting for a fee from individuals interested in joining the Ghana Armed Forces.
According to the prosecution, the complainant reported the occurrence to the police, and the accused was located and arrested at his home. He stated that a search of his room uncovered a Techno mobile phone with the sim card 0593066104 and another I-Tel phone.
The prosecution stated that during interrogation, the accused admitted to having the two phones with sim cards and admitting to using the complainant’s photographs and name to deceive the public into giving him money under the guise of recruiting them into the Ghana Armed Forces.
Case adjourned to June 29, 2021.
