The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has started procedures that enable scheme participants to consolidate their SSNIT numbers with NIA numbers.

The merger will benefit members by allowing them to utilize a single card, the Ghana Card, for all services under the pension scheme.

According to a release, holders of the cards will only need to dial *7119# and follow the procedures to merge their SSNIT and NIA numbers, or alternatively merge their numbers by logging onto the SSNIT website and following the on-screen instructions.

Additionally, the statement stated that the card holders can visit any nearest SSNIT branch with their Ghana Cards, valid email addresses, and phone numbers to request for merger of their cards, but added that members will be notified once the process is completed.

“Members of the scheme who provided SSNIT numbers as part of the NIA registration process should be aware that their numbers have already been merged. These individuals may check the progress of the merger by dialing the short code 7119# and selecting option two.“

According to the statement, after the SSNIT and NIA numbers are merged, the card holders will be able to conduct business with the Trust using their Ghana Cards.

The statement also reminded the public that beginning July 15, 2021, all new members of the SSNIT scheme would be required to provide their Ghana Cards as identification when enrolling in the scheme.

Management has encouraged all scheme members to ensure that their membership numbers are merged to facilitate a smooth transition. But no action has been done thus far.
