The Caretaker Minister for the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP), Cecilia Abena Dapaah has inaugurated and sworn into office a thirteen (13) member Governing Board (GB) of the National Council on Persons with Disability (NCPD).
She called on members to formulate policies and strategies to enable Persons with Disability to have an equal access and participate in the mainstream of the national development process.
The Governing Board of the NCPD was inaugurated in accordance with Section 43 of the Persons with Disability Act, 2006 (Act 715).
Addressing board members, the Minster said the President’s initiatives are to ensure that PWDs are participants in the decision-making process adding that issues of disability are dear to the heart of Preseident Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo.
“This is further obvious from the National Plan 4 where government has made numerous commitments to this effect”, the Minister stressed.
Cecilia Abena Dapaah led the members to take the Oath of Office and also that of Secrecy and urged them to collaborate effectively to ensure that issues of disabilities are well mainstreamed.
“The board has a huge task to ensure that persons with disabilities are part of national development”, she said.
The thirteen-member board would be chaired by Yaw Ofori Debra.
Some of the members include Madam Mercy Aburam, Shadrack Mensah, Florence Ayisi Quartey, Henry George Ekuban, Dr. Comfort Asare amongst others.
Present at the inauguration were, Deputy Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection Lariba Zuweira Abudu and Dr. Afisah Zakariah, the Chief Director.
