The Ghana Scholarship Secretariat has announced plans to support qualified civil servants to pursue academic programmes at accredited tertiary institutions in the country.
This was announced in a statement shared by the Registrar of the Secretariat after signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Office of the Head of Civil Service.
“The Secretariat, will from next year ensure that qualified staffs of the Civil Service are sponsored to pursue Diplomas, Bachelors, Masters and PhD programmes in accredited tertiary institutions both public and private.” the statement read.
Mr. Agyemang believes that “once these civil servant are upgraded academically; it can go a long way to boost their confidence and help in productivity as well.”
The signing of the MoU follows a directive from the Vice-President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
The directive, according to Mr. Agyemang was informed by the Veep’s belief that people drive value which directly results in strengthening of institutions for an accelerated development.
The Head of the Civil Service, Nana Kwasi Agyekum Dwamena, for his part, commended the initiative from the Vice-President, adding that it was a call in the right direction since the development of any country lies mostly in its public and civil servants.
