Ghanaian celebrated musician, Okyeame Kwame says it is the responsibility of his fellow artiste from the country to either create the ‘market’ for themselves or work hard to break into other markets.

He said it is not enough for artistes to say they have created a work then go to sleep without making sure that his art make it to the market and sell.

Let’s stop blaming others for not giving us opportunity to break into their market. We have to work to be accepted”.

Using an analogy to explain his position in an interview on Hitz FM, the “Yeeko” hitmaker said  he doesn’t  think people should blame others, especially neighbouring Nigerians,  for not giving “us the opportunity to enter into their market”.

He continued that “Is it the market’s responsibility to come and buy your rice, supposing you are selling rice? And if they decide not to buy your rice, is it because you have not marketed it well or because the market have decided not to buy your rice?”.

“I think whatever you are selling, it is your responsibility to get it to whichever market you want, to take advantage and sell, so I don’t really think that we should blame others for not giving us the opportunity because once a door is close, there will be a window” he philosophized.

He also made mention that if one identifies a market to sell their work, I is important they work on it for success, saying musicians like “ Kojo Antwi, Amakye Dede, king Promise, Tinny, VIP, including myself and a lot of Ghanaian musicians have been able to penetrate that (Nigerian) market”.

Touching on strategies to employ to break through, the musician said it comes at a cost, “and for me my question is, whichever market you want to work in, it cost money, you need to build your agenda proper, you need to pay for promotions if it is that important to you then you should go there, form your alliance and make it happen”.
