The Ghana Police Service has apologized to residents of Tamale who have been brutised by some officers for illegally connecting to the national grid.

The incident which took place on Monday September 20, 2021, saw some security operatives in a viral video, using horse whip to beat the victims in areas such as Zujung, Lamashegu and Nakpan Zou in the Northern Regional capital.

This was after NEDCO/VRA sought help of the Police officers to help them check on such illegal connections in the district, and the region as a whole.

Police issued statement following the brutality to condemned it and added it immediately called for interdiction of four of its men who were involved the assault of the .

 “The Police administration has with immediate effect, interdicted four Police officers working with the Northern Regional Police Command following the alleged assault of some persons in Tamale in the Northern Region on Tuesday, September 21, 2021”.

Meanwhile, visiting those who have been assaulted by the four officers on Sunday September 26, 2021, apologized on behalf of the service and the Acting IGP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.

Statement from the Police also said the medical treatment of the affected persons have fully been paid in addition to provision of psychological support for the victims.

It also served notice it will arrest and bring to book, a group of irate youth who embarked on an unlawful demonstration and vandalised the Police Divisional Headquarters building and VRA office in Tamale on Saturday.

The youth were protesting against the assault of some residents by policemen during a recent anti-power theft operation.
