The North East Regional National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), John Alhassan, has appealed to corporate Ghana to support the organization in providing relief items to victims of the recent flooding in the region.

He said the region is overwhelmed by the impact of the flooding and the damage caused to residents in the region.

He confirmed that some nine persons lost their lives as a result of the flooding.

Giving the breakdown, he disclosed that in the East Mamprusi District, three farmers who were returning from their farm were hit by thunder lighting resulting in the death of two of them on the spot whereas the other victim died at the hospital.

Also, in the West Mamprusi Municipality, Alhassan Adams, a farmer who had gone to the farm to harvest groundnuts, died when his boat capsized on his way back home.

Mr. Alhassan said although NADMO has provided some relief items to the affected people, much is still needed, hence his appeal.

Similar situation happened in the Northern Region.

On Monday August 30, 2021, several homes and schools have hit by flood in some parts of the Tamale Metropolis following heavy downpour in the Northern Region.

Heavily affected areas are in the Tamale Metropolis and Sangnarigu.

Communities such as Gumani, Nyanshegu, Fuo, Taha and Kanvili-Tuunaayili among others, have been hit hard by the Monday August 30, 2021 deluge thereby rendering some families homeless, while others have tried to salvage their belongings.

Reports gathered by Mynewsafric.com revealed that the downpour which started at about 8:45 am on Monday, continued until about 1:00 pm in the afternoon affecting communities such as Kalariga, Lamashegu South, parts of Changli, Kakpagyili, Lamankara, Bugyili, Taha-Yapala, parts of Vitting and Kulnyenvila.

Residents were left in despair as the downpour flooded their homes and in some cases blocked access to routes, living persons in those neighborhoods trapped in-doors for hours.

Some walls also collapsed due to the downpour, which also peeled off the surface of some roads in the vicinity creating dangerous potholes that endangered the motoring publics.
