Rufftown record label signee Wendy Shay has likened VGMA and 3Music award schemes as to New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Speaking to Sammy Flex, host of Showbiz Agenda on Zylofon 102.1 FM, she said her absence on the just ended VGMA was because everything about her now is making money. “Before I became Wendy Shay, I used to think when you win an award, you will get $1,000.00 but that is not the case. You only get the plaque and nothing else. No car, no money, nothing. Right now, I am all about the money, so when it is not about money, I don’t put my self-involved. I love my fans, and again I was busy with my album.”
The singer further registered her displeasure in the industry. According to her, some Artiste in the industry were favored, whilst others like herself (Wendy Shay) needs to work hard to earn what they want.
“We have an Artiste in the Industry and we have an Industry in the Artiste. There are some Artiste who do not deserve what they get, but the industry gives it to them because they have their favorites. In the whole scheme, I Knew I was not going to win because others were favored. ‘I am an Artiste in the industry’ and need to put in more work. I need to put in more work,” she said.
She added that “VGMA and 3Music are doing well, but they are just like NPP and NDC.”
Commenting about #FixTheCountry campaign, the Rufftown signee said it is a good initiative, but “I think the theme should have been ‘Keep Fixing the country.” Nana Addo can’t fix the country within four years” she added.
