Ghanaian hip-hop musician Kofi Mole has expressed the challenges in being an independent artiste.
In an Interview with Sammy Flex host of Showbiz Agenda on Zylofon FM, the rapper said all the monies he earns for the music are invested back into producing more music. Expressing the challenges he face, the rapper said the difficulty comes when they want to promote their content.
He said “it is difficult as an independent artiste. You get the money and put it back into producing music. I would have liked to be on a record label, but it is not really a deal. It becomes difficult when it comes to promotion, especially on Social media. You need to meet with people to help you promote your content on social media. The channels to meet with these people is the problem.”
The rapper recently released a single ‘Hwee Nko’ which has been making waves for a while. Some entertainment critics have associated the song to #fixthecountry campaign.
But the rapper said the song was recorded three years ago, even before #fixthecountry campaign started. He said he decided to release the song due to numerous request he received from his fans especially on the social media.
Kofi Mole clarified that ‘Hwee Nko’ was written out of circumstances he was facing at the time. Although the song preaches about social issues in the country, he has dissociates himself from any political party who wants to use his song as a tool for propaganda.
It was recently reported that Kofi Mole does not support the legalization of same-sex relationships in Ghana. This comes after the LGBTQ bill put before parliament was leaked on social media.
Responding to this, he said “there are basic things people need to make life comfortable, such as Education, Jobs and the rest. These need much attention than legalization of LGBTQ. They should work on the basic ones”.
