Convener of #FixTheCountry campaign Ernesto Yeboah said he is not surprised about some comments made by the former President John Agyekum Kufour regarding demands being made by the youths on current leadership of the country.
Ernesto Yeboah who is also the Leader of Economic Fighters League (EFL) explained that the former President’s position is backed by his political ideology and philosophy thus would have been surprised if Mr. John Agyekum Kufour had backed the youths’ actions of demanding good governance and development.
“His (Mr. John Agyekum Kufour) comments did not come to me as surprise at all. From the political ideology he came from, they are taught to malign and cause division among people, so what can he say differently. This was dated back to the days of our First President Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. So, as for Mr. Kufour that is what he can say” Ernest told Noel Nutsugah, host of the Statecraft on Zylofon 102.1 FM.
Former President Kufour over the weekend in an interview asked those championing the #FixTheCountry agenda to desist from pretending as though the country was in its rightful shape and a particular government came to destroy it.
According to him, no government possesses a magic wand that could easily transform the economy of the country so the #FixTheCountry agenda should be revisited and revised. Additionally, he said Ghana is still depending on the same resources it had since 64 years ago which makes it difficult because the country’s population keeps expanding, adding that the country is currently suffering from its decision to introduce certain foreign culture and practices without subjecting it to proper scrutiny.
But the convener of #FixTheCountry insists the country was destroyed after the overthrow of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, adding that the first President was actually on an industrialization agenda before he was taken out of power. “So when I hear comments like this from people who did not add anything to the achievements of our first president, I feel sad”
He explained that both NDC and NPP have succeeded in destroying the gains made by ‘wise and prudent’ policies of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and “I believe none of their governemnts have come close to what Nkruma did for this country. If they had continued, would the youths be protesting today” he queried.
“From my readings, it is only Dr. Nkrumah that during his tenure as president, our 1pm news is carried across the world. People were eager to know happenings in Ghana in terms of his development agenda. But what do we see today”
So, if the former president has said that, he was only restating the reality and I am not surprised at his comments, Leader of Economic Fighters League (EFL) concluded.
