The Ashanti Regional coordinator for the Young Cadres Maxwell Deku has called on Major (rtd) Boakye Gyan to desist from denigrating the image of late former President and one time life patron of the Cadre Front, Jerry John Rawlings.
At a press conference Mr. Maxwell Deku expressed his misgivings on recent pronouncements of the man who was once close associate of the former President. He described comments by Major Boakye Gyan as “barbaric and unacceptable”.
“Was he not part of the Revolution which came to do a clean-up exercise for a democratic governance? How can same person turn round to be calling our founder names? For him to call the Chairman as a walking criminal is to say the least unacceptable and we by this release calling on him to shut up or face our wrath”
Major (Rtd) Kojo Boakye-Djan, in an interview on Accra based radio station, has accepted he was key architect of the 4 June 1979 uprising and in the process described the late former President Jerry John Rawlings died as “a walking criminal”.
Major (rtd) Boakye Gyan in the same interview called for posthumous prosecution of the late President for his actions in the second coup on 31 December 1981.
However the Ashanti Regional coordinator for the Young Cadres questioned why the ex-military man chose to go after the former president instead of talking about the factors that brought about the June 4th uprising. Some of these factors he claimed presently exist are scandals like the PDS, COVID-19 Scandal at Kotoka International Airport, Sputnik V vaccines scandal “and so many which are happening under this government but Major Boakye Gyan has kept mute as if he is not in the country”.
Again the coordinator for the Young Cadres said ”we are ready to match him and any politician boot for boot for any unacceptable comments about the party NDC and their leaders on any media platform. The former President is our founder and he will continue to remain an integral part of our party that is why we will not allow people like him to run him down unchallenged”
He thus tasked the leadership of the NDC to be focused and ready for the 2024 general elections and not to be distracted by any “unacceptable comments and attitude from NPP sponsored persons claiming to be lovers of Jerry John Rawlings“.
