Gospel musician Diana Antwi Hamilton made history at the VGMA 2021 when she emerged as the first female Gospel Artiste to be crowned as Artiste of the Year.
And with the track ‘Adom’, she snatched the most coveted award in the industry on the night.
In an interview with Sammy Flex host of Showbiz Agenda on Zylofon FM she revealed that support from the Church of Pentecost was coincidental since the Church had already set a theme for the year which states that “Possess the Nation” adding that she believed that was what happened.
She said, “I do not think anyone sat down to calculate this. But the Church of Pentecost has a theme this year, possessing the Nation. We are possessing the nation. In terms of politics, governance, education, finance and entertainment. And we are not going to do what the masses are doing. We are bringing Jesus to the market. And I think I have been one person who has taken Jesus to the market. And the church deemed it fit to support me and push me to do this. So, it was not just the church of Pentecost. It was the body of Christ.”
According to Diana, leaders of the Christian fraternity are proud of her contributions to the ministry, making Jesus attractive to even the unbeliever, adding that her mission is to set out and bless generations, not to win awards, and therefore her win was not predicted.
The Church Of Pentecost upon hearing the news of her victory took to their official Facebook page to celebrate her hard work and subsequent victory. The church of Pentecost congratulated her and revealed how proud they are to have had someone from the Church winning this year’s VGMA Artiste of the Year.
“Congratulations Diana Antwi Hamilton for winning the artiste of the year. The Church of Pentecost is proud of you. We are possessing the nations” the Church posted on Facebook.
She added that the love and support did not only come from her church, but also the gospel fraternity and Industry players who openly declared their support for her.
Out of the six nominations she received at the 22nd edition of the VGMA, Diana Hamilton swept four. This included the most prestigious award of the night, Artiste of the Year. Her wins included Best Gospel Song of the Year, Gospel Artiste of the Year and Vodafone Most Popular Song of the Year.
