Fuel prices at the pump have gone up marginally in the second price window of June. This has become necessary as a result of rising prices of petroleum commodities on the world market.
As of June 14, 2021, the price of gasoline in Ghana stood at GHS6.69 cedis per liter, corresponding to approximately 1.08 dollars. This according to experts, represented a slight decrease compared to two weeks earlier. The increase which was 12% had been because of an introduction of some taxes increment by the National Petroleum Authority.
However, the commodity in the second pricing window this month, has risen to 3%, attributable to increase in the price of the commodity on the international market.
According to the Executive Secretary of COPEC Duncan Amoah, government must as a matter of urgency need to put some measures in place to halt the recurring increment.
He was quoted as saying “Fuel prices have been increased again. This time by 3 percent. The authorities say there is a rise in the price of the commodity on the international market. Fuel prices keep rising and this must stop. This must stop,”
The surge in fuel prices always receive some backlashes from the Ghanaians consumers especially as pricing of goods and services are largely dependent on upwards increase in the commodity prices.
Not long ago, National Transport Operators also raised their fares, citing increases in fuel prices and high cost of spare parts as reasons for their action, corresponding effect was an increase on goods in the market.
Mynewsafric.com can confirm that some major Oil Marketing Companies have already done adjustment to their pumps to reflect the new increment.
