President of Kayayo Association Ghana, Hajia Adiza Zongo Panior, has reminded former President John Mahama and the entire National Democratic Congress (NDC) party that Ghanaians still remember the Embraer Jet scandal under the erstwhile administration.
In a viral video, Hajia Adiza, has accused John Mahama of causing huge financial loss to the state since according to him, Ghana got nothing out of the Embraer Jet deal.
She said if the deal at the time was not tainted with corruption, the late President Professor John Evans Atta Mills would not have launched an inquiry into the deal and sanctioned an investigation against John Mahama over the purchase of the Embraer jets in the name of the Ghana Armed Forces.
Justifying the use of private jet by President Nana Addo, Hajia Adiza said “the President is using expensive private jets for his trips abroad to bring investors and good things to Ghana”
“Because they want to come to power any good thing President Akufo-Addo will do, they are so quick to rubbish it. We saw all that happened under the NDC and they now have found their voices to criticize President Akufo-Addo’s trips in private jet when the president is bringing investors to develop our country.” She explained.
She also described demands of accountability by North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa as “making a huge capital out of the recent presidential trips for political gains”
“If the National Democratic Congress (NDC) member, Okudzeto Ablakwa could charter a plane to get married then it’s nothing if President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo flies in expensive jet.” She alleged
The President’s trips using private jet has been widely criticized after it was discovered that his recent visit to France, Belgium, and South Africa were done using an expensive private jet he rented using taxpayers money. According to Okudzeto Ablakwa, his checks revealed that the trips cost the taxpayer GHS2.8 million, forcing him to summon the Defence Minister Dominic Nitiwul and Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta to Parliament to answer questions.
While the issue is still being discussed in the country, Hajia Adiza insisted that if the MP and the erstwhile NDC government could spend taxpayer’s money on things that do not benefit the country, then the President who has introduced the Free SHS programme can afford to fly in the best jets available.
“Even you (NDC) that misused the country’s money and used some to buy cars for girls you still bought a plane. If there is a plane better than the one Nana Addo used then he deserves to use that one,” Hajia Adiza notes.
She stressed that the NDC should be ashamed for criticising the jet used by the President, adding that the president needs to prosecute all persons that ‘squandered’ money when the NDC was in power under John Mahama.
