Lawyers for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin North, James Gyekye Quayson, have petitioned the Chief Justice, to remove the judge hearing the petition challenging the election of the MP.

A member of the NDC legal team Sammy Gyamfi, after hearing yesterday said the legal team has reached out to the Chief Justice to remove Justice Kwasi Boakye due to what he regarded as lack of objectivity.

It will be recalled that Mr. Abraham Amaliba, the MP’s lead attorney, had earlier recused himself from the case due to some purported remarks made by Justice Boakye. But Justice Boakye denied making such statements and refused the oral recusal application, leading to the resignation of Mr Amaliba from the case.

However at yesterday’s hearing, it was revealed that Mr. Amaliba had failed to serve his client with notice of his intention to withdraw his legal services, allowing the MP to hire a new lawyer. As a result, Justice Boakye asked Mr. Amaliba to notify the MP in order to expedite the hearing.
