At least nine BECE candidates have been confirmed dead by drowning after the boat they were traveling on capsized on River Oti Friday November 12, 2021.

Reports say the students who were about 30 had gone to work on a rice farm with their head teacher and were returning.

The others managed to swim across to safety while the nine perished. Seven bodies have so far been retrieved.

They bodies have been released to the families for burial after police report was filed.

They were set to partake in the BECE which begins Monday November 15, 2021.
