The Concerned Drivers Union Association of Ghana, has set November 25, 2021 to embark on a strike over the continuous increment on fuel prices.

Ghanaians woke up on Monday morning of November 22, 2021 to notice an increment in fuel prices.

Super not long ago moved from GHS 6.38 to GHS 6.52 per litre, then hopped from GHS 6.52 to 6.90 per litre.

The Monday’s increment saw the product moved from 6.90 per litre to GH¢6.99 per litre.

Concerned Drivers Union Association said it has come to the realisation that the increase in the prices of fuel and spare parts in the country has resulted in high standard of living.

“The drivers’ union has decided to go on strike on the 25th of November 2021 and, therefore, all motorbikes, tricycles, taxis and trotro cars that use fuel for commercial purposes, have decided to park” the vehicles, the group said in a statement.

The union is also pleading with the government to help reduce the price of fuel.

The drivers, had earlier on threatened to strike but later rescinded their decision pending the presentation of the 2022 budget statement.

Since the budget did not touch on any plans to reduce the price of fuel, the drivers have decided to walk the talk and park their vehicles in protest.

Meanwhile Executive Secretary of the Chamber of the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC), Duncan Amoah has expressed disappointment in the government for not proposing any policy in the 2022 budget statement to address the continuous hikes in fuel prices.

Mr. Duncan had reiterated calls for the government to review the taxes imposed on petroleum products in the country.

“We don’t know what will happen but we will keep hoping that before the end of the year, maybe the Ministry of Energy will be able to make a concrete case to the President again just as the Price Stabilisation and Recovery Levy has been zeroed for other taxes to also be zeroed. He was reported to have said on Citi Fm”
