Tributes continued to pour after the passing of Ghanaian highlife great known in the music industry as Nana Ampadu. The latest to join is the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Aseidu Nketia.
The NDC scribe who is affectionately referred to as ‘General Mosquito’ has revealed that, he used to be the late Nana Ampadu’s music promoter, even before he joined the political train.
Nana Ampadu also known as ‘Adwomtofo Nyinaa Hene’ was a composer of over 800 songs. The former leader of the African Brothers Band, formed in 1963 died at age 76 on Tuesday morning.
According to Mr. Nketia who disclosed his working relationship with the highlife-great, he was one-time a music promoter for Nana Ampadu.
Speaking in an interview on Okay FM, the Ghanaian politician stated: “As a music promoter, I worked with Nana Ampadu, Alex Konadu, Adofo and other highlife legends in the country before I even came into active politics.”
The NDC General Secretary noted that the death of the veteran music came as a shock to him.
“I was more worried about Adofo who hasn’t been feeling well for some time now only for me to hear of Ampadu’s death at the airport, so I was shocked.”
Meanwhile, veteran musician Akosua Agyapong has revealed that there will be no one week celebration for the late Nana Ampadu.
According to Akosua, they will be celebrating the legends 40 days instead.
Speaking with Agyemang Prempeh on “Power Entertainment” she revealed that the late Nana Ampadu was a Chief and a pastor and as such there will be no one week celebration.
“He was a legend, Chief and pastor and as custom demands he will be celebrated on the 40th day instead of one week”, she said.
