Former President John Mahama said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) with its democratic tendencies, should not put impediments on the way pf anyone who wants to contest to be the flag bearer of the party.

Mr. Mahama called on the national executives of the NDC to ensure that a level playground is created for anyone who so wishes to put himself up to contest, do so without any hindrances.

According to him, the NDC is a democratic party and must therefore be opened to all who feel competent enough to lead.

“From next year, we (NDC) will begin our branch, constituency, regional and national elections. From there we will do our flagbearership elections.”

The NDC is a democratic party so all those who show interest and qualify to contest must be allowed to do so. We must all support whoever emerges victorious into the 2024 elections, and I am certain that God will give us victory,” the former President said in a Cape Coast where he was for his ‘Thank you tour’ on Thursday.

It comes after reports that former governor of the Central Bank and businessman Dr. Kwabena Duffuor is seeking to challenge Mr. Mahama for the flagbearer slot of the NDC in the 2024 election.

The team of the former Finance Minister has released a video that shows him asking NDC members to register at their various branches.

Although the leadership of the NDC is yet to speak on the said video, a group called Action Movement, aligned to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has declared its support for former Finance Minister, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor to contest the party’s presidential primaries.

According to the group, Dr. Duffuor possesses the best qualities to lead the party for the 2024 general elections.

A statement issued on October 13, 2021 and signed by the group’s leader, James Agbey, stated that “Just like many party faithful are already drumming up support for Dr. Duffuor to enter the NDC presidential race, the Action Movement also demands the entry of the former Finance Minister and any other NDC activists who are interested in making Ghana a better place.
