The families of the late social activist Ibrahim Mohammed Anyass, popularly referred to as Macho Kaaka, and others who got injured during the Ejura riot will today October 27, 2021 meet all Zongo Chiefs under the leadership of Sarki Zongo of Ejura, Alhaji Suraj Alhassan.

Oliver Barker Vormawor who is lawyer to the Kaaka family explained that, the meeting will touch on several issues including, updates on the investigations related to the death of Macho Kaaka, and the aftermath of the Ejura committee’s report.

He said the meeting will also discuss “justice for the people of Ejura and the welfare of affected persons”.              

Vormawor indicated that the meeting will take place at the Zongo Chief Palace in Ejura.

Kindly note that the families of Ibrahim Mohammed Anyass Alias Macho Kaaka, Abdul Nasir Yussif, Muntala Mohammed Siraji and the several individuals injured in the Ejura shootings, will be meeting all zongo chiefs under the leadership of Sarki Zongo of Ejura today October 27,2021 at 10:30am.           

The meeting will touch on several issues including:                     

1. Updates on the investigations related to the death of Macho Kaaka

2. Aftermath of the Ejura committee’s report.              

3. Justice for the people of Ejura.                                

4. The welfare of affected persons.

Background.

The late Ibrahim Mohammed Anyass Macho Kaaka, 45, who was a social activist and a resident of Ejura in the Ashanti Region was reportedly attacked by some people.

He died on Monday afternoon, June 28, 2021 at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi where he was receiving treatment.

Abdul Nasir Yussif and, Muntala Mohammed Siraji were killed and four others injured after a combined team of Police and Military personal shot into protesters during the burial of Kaaka.

The youth of Ejura were protesting the death of Ibrahim Mohammed also known as Macho Kaaka, who was reportedly attacked on the dawn of June 27 and later died on Monday afternoon June 28, 2021.

President Nana Akufo-Addo, in July 2021 directed the Interior Minister Ambrose Dery to establish a committee of inquiry to conduct a public inquiry into the killing of two persons and injuries to four others by the soldiers during the protest.

The report of the three-member ministerial committee have since been published by the government.

Among other things, the committee recommended the removal of the MCE for the area, who had already pulled out of the race for a new MCE, and compensation for the affected families and victims.
