The Tema Regional Police Command has arraigned 29 suspects for assaulting two police officers at Luhuor, a community near Sege in the Ada West District.

Statement from the Police stated that the suspects have also seized a riot control weapon and a box of ammunition from the two Police Officers who were detailed to protect lives and properties at a Electrohem Ghana Limited, a private business.

It said the police officers were responding to a distress call at Electrohem Ghana Limited at Luhuor when they were allegedly attacked by some members of the community.

“A Police report indicates that on 21st October 2021, three Police officers were responding to a distress call at Electrochem Ghana Limited at Luhuor, when they came under attack from some members of the community who blocked the road leading to the company”.

“Some of the suspects took the Police officers hostage for more than three hours and assaulted them. They later seized the Riot Control Weapon and destroyed a Toyota Cross-country vehicle belonging to the Service”, the statement said.

It would be recalled that Police in the Ada West District picked and detained some youth and Chief Toflokpo Salom near Sege, Nene Dadebom Anim II for allegedly invading private property belonging to Ghanaian businessman Daniel McKorley.

According to reports, the angry youth initially overpowered private security guards on patrol duty at Electrochem operational area close to the community and injured some after seizing their guns and ammunitions.

Police were quickly dispatched to the scene to restore sanity after receiving a distressed call from worker of the company.

The ‘angry’ youth reportedly attacked the police too when they arrived at the scene, prompting a reinforcement team from Tema who managed to round up about 40 members of the community in connection with the disturbances.

One person was reported to have sustained gunshot wounds and rushed to a nearby health facility for medical attention during the disturbances.
