The Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Madam Cecilia Dapaah, says she expects the newly sworn-in board of the Ghana Water Company to ensure that it improves the debt situation of the company.

The minister was speaking during the swearing-in of the 11-member board of the utility company.

She further called on the Board to ensure the completion of the various water projects started by the company and an improvement in its general operations.

She stated that “I urge the board to do their work with the vision of Government’s agenda of water for all in mind. It is worth noting that His Excellency the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in the previous year cut the sod for a number of projects… As directors of the board, I urge you to help the management to meticulously steer the affairs of the company to ensure that all these projects are properly executed for the benefit of the good people of Ghana.”

Chairman of the board of the Ghana Water Company Limited and Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central Constituency, Patrick Yaw Boamah stated that they would work to ensure the utility company attains financial independence.

A company that has over 4000 employees with over 90 plants nationwide still depends so much on government to survive, and I believe that we must move the company in a certain direction where they can be able to do a lot of things on the back of  their own balance sheet”

He further pledged on behalf of the board to raise the Ghana Water Company’s operations to international standards.
