Ghana’s embassy in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has dismissed reports that the Visa Waiver Agreement between the UAE and the government of Ghana has taken effect.

A statement by the embassy Monday said even though a memorandum of understanding has been signed between the two states, the processes of executing the terms have not been completed.

It comes on the back of reports that Ghanaians no longer required visas when traveling to the UAE following the adoption of the MOU between the countries by Parliament.

Ghana’s Parliament has adopted the foreign Affairs Committee Report on the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the government and the UAE on mutual exemption of entry visa requirements in respect of diplomatic, service/special and ordinary passport holders.

The MOU on the exemption of visa requirements between Ghana and the UAE was taken to Parliament on May 2021 by Foreign Affairs Minister Shirley Ayorkor Botchway.
