The National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) has launched the Mid-Term Evaluation Report on Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) aimed at bringing to the fore progress made by the MMDAs in the area of sanitation, child protection, Health, job creation among others.
Launching the report in Accra on Wednesday, the Chief Executive of NDPC, Dr. Kojo Mensah Abrampah explained that the Report is a national development policy Frame work, describing it as a key information which is pioneering the case of Ghana.
“I will encourage all of you Co-ordinating Directors that this is a key information which is pioneering a case for Ghana”, the NDPC CEO emphasized.
He later revealed that it was difficult getting support to put the report together but for UNICEF.
In that regard, Dr. Abrampah commended UNICEF for partnering the NDPC in realizing its constitutional mandate of periodically evaluating the MMDAs.
The NDPC boss also used the occasion to launch the District League Table III and Dissemination of Reviews 2020 District APRs and Core Indicators.
The Chief Director at the Regional Co-coordinating Council, Madam Felicia Dapaah, on her part stressed that the report will serve as a guide to the MMDAs to deliver on their mandate.
She said the participation of the Co-coordinators, directors of budget and planning from the MMDAs was to afford them the opportunity to provide appropriate feedback to the NDPC in order to improve upon the quality of the report going forward.
The Deputy UNICEF Representive Mr. Fiachra McAsey commended the NDPC for conducting what he termed a detailed report needed to streamline the MMDAs.
He also commended government for its commitment to the development of children in the area of Free SHS. He added that it will help in promoting the SDGs.
“UNICEF is pleased to co-operate with NDPC to enhance accountability and results in MMDAs”, he said.
Mr. McAsey later called on government to empower MMDAs for an effective work in order to realize their target for the development of the nation.
