The Ghana Health Service will from Friday, August 13, 2021, give out jabs of the Johnson and Johnson vaccines in the Greater Accra Region.
At a press briefing to announce the exercise the manager of Ghana’s expanded programme on Immunisation, Dr. Kwame Amponsa-Achiano addressing the media on the exercise said the service is hopeful to start from the Greater Accra in 11 districts before moving to Kumasi metro for the rest of the exercise.
“We are hopeful that at least the Greater Accra Region will start [vaccination] on Friday. [Vaccines for] Kumasi will be travelling today, so it will not be realistic for Ashanti to start tomorrow… hopefully by Monday, they should also be able to start”.
He also added that “We are still looking at the most at risk. Of course, we are also pursuing additional vaccines for them. Everybody is at risk, but there are more vulnerable people, and so that is what we are looking at now”.
The Ghana Health Service he, added, would not be giving the Johnson and Johnson shots to persons who have previously received the AstraZeneca vaccine.
The Service is also expected to begin that in the Ashanti Region next Monday, August 16, 2021.
