Seth Kwabena Kyere Karikari also known as Koo Fori, a well-known Ghanaian actor who hit the limelight through popular stage play Television series “Efie Wura” has revealed that his mother wept when she saw him playing the role of a drunkard for the first time.

Speaking in an interview with Sammy Flex, host of Showbiz Agenda on Zylofon 102.1 FM, the actor said playing the drunkard role was challenging for him, especially when his background as a Christian was widely known.

For the first time my mom saw me, it was on a Sunday where she had visited one of my church members who wasn’t well. Apparently, they were showing ‘Efie Wura’ and then somebody was drunk and she was like whose son is in this bad state? So the camera zoomed the face and she burst into tears. My mom wept. She taught it was real.”

Narrating his journey on how acting began for him, Koo Fori said “there was this drunkard in our area. That time we were kids, so all the time, whenever he is passing we follow him and mimic his actions. He will drink and when it is 4 or 5pm, then whe will be leaving to the house to look for food to eat. So when he comes to pass like that then we mimic him. So one day we waited, but he never showed up and we were disappointed. I decided to play his role so that the rest of the kids will pull my clothes, so that is how it started for me.”

The actor also worked with Radio Gold as a presenter, before its closure in May 9, 2019.

Touching on the closure of the radio station, the Actor said “it was a serious blow” and that it left them in a confused state as that was where “we got our daily bread from.” He recounted how the station was transmitting a live programme before armed soldiers “moved in to close the station and walk away.”

Asked what he made of present day radio hosts, Koo Fori retorted “Most radio hosts are not objective. We should let the people know what is going on. Favoritism has made the job not nice…At radio Gold, we were not paid salaries for 4 months and I said it on air. After the show for about an hour later I got a dismissal letter. But my lawyers worked on it.
