Former Member of Parliament for Buem constituency, Daniel Kwesi Ashiamah has called on the President Akufo-Addo not to shelve the Ejura Committee’s report as done in the case of Ayawaso West Wuogon’s report.
The former MP implored President Nana Addo to implement the recommendations to the latter if the committee presents its work to him, adding it would be worrying if the President repeats what he and his government did to the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election shooting incident’s finding which was led by former CHRAJ Boss Emil Short.
The former legislator said Ghanaians felt disappointed after the government issued a white paper ignoring the recommendations by the Justice Emile Short Commission.
A social activist, Ibrahim Muhammed, died on Monday, June 28, 2021, after he was attacked by a mob when he was returning home on his motorbike on Sunday at Ejura. The 45-year-old was noted to be vocal on both local and national issues using his Facebook page.
Following his burial, some residents of Ejura started a street protest, but were confronted by armed police and military personnel, leading to the death of two persons who were said to have been shot by some soldiers. This led to President Nana Addo tasking the Interior Minister Ambrose Dery, to constitute a committee to probe the incident.
A three-member committee was constituted to conduct a public enquiry into the unfortunate occurrences on Tuesday, June 29, 2021. The committee was led by Justice of the Court of Appeal, Justice George Kingsley Koomson and has Security Analyst, Dr. Vladimir Antwi-Danso, and the Executive Director of Penplusbytes, Juliet Amoah as other members.
But even before the committee would present its report, the former legislator Daniel Kwesi Ashiamah is charging government not to ‘sleep’ on the report.
He said “I hope the President and his government will not come to tell us that some of the recommendations made by the Commission were not compelling enough as done in the case of Ayawaso West Wuogon, but will implement it”.
He admonished the president to act on the recommendations so that Ghanaians would see an end to “these acts of lawlessness”.
