Former Energy Minister Boakye Kyeremanteng Agyarko has taken a swipe at critics who are calling for his prosecution in the matter of abrogated power deals during his tenure as sector minister.

Mr. Agyarko described the calls for his prosecution as “an act of ignorance and stupidity

Although he admitted that the law must deal fairly and squarely with people who are found to have misconducted themselves in the abrogation of the power deal, leading to the country being charged huge sums of money for judgement debt, he believes it will be a mark of high ignorance to robe him into those he thinks are the culprits.

He added that those who are calling for his head should rather spend time to apprise themselves with the governance structure regarding operations of “Cabinet”
It would be recalled that the Executive Secretary of COPEC, Duncan Amoah has on several platforms called on the President Nana Addo to drag Mr. Agyarko to court for ‘misleading’ the president over the novation AMERI deal.

Regarding the recent $170 million dollars judgement debt slapped on the country by UK court, after an arbitrator had found the country guilty for terminating a power agreement during the tenure of Mr. Agyarko, there are those who think Mr. Agyarko should be made to answer questions in court as well.

But the former energy minister rebuffed these accusations saying those who are calling for his prosecution may be doing so out of emotions.

He wondered how a cabinet decision that was given to a sector minister to implement, becomes personal responsibilities of an individual who carry out the implementation of the cabinet decision.

To think like that mean you are not fit enough to participate in governance. May be people don’t understand what a cabinet meeting and cabinet decision is about. But the ‘president’ cabinet take a decision based on a report produce by a technical committee and the sector minister is asked to go and implement the report, then you say it is the sector minister’s liability”? he asked in bewilderment in an interview monitored by Mynewsafric.com.

Asked if sector ministers can object to cabinet decision, Mr. Agyako responded “are you crazy, [excused my French], who are you? a cabinet minister, ‘president’ cabinet takes a decision and you, puny minister you say you won’t implement or you won’t accept it, how can that be?

However, he suggested that if a minister does not feel good about a cabinet decision “You can resign on a matter of principle

Editor’s note: Could it be that the former Energy Minister Boakye Kyeremanteng Agyarko resigned his position at the time on grounds of ‘PRINCIPLE’ as he seemed to suggest?
