One of the forerunners of the #FixTheCountry movement, Effia Odo, has revealed that she and her fellow campaigners had been bundled and arrested by the Ghana Police as though they were “common” criminals.

The socialite has thus expressed disappointment in the Ghana Police Service over how she and her colleagues were treated and called on the Police to all time exhibit professionalism “especially as we demand that our leaders should wake up and fix the country for all of us including the Police

On Friday June 25, 2021, Police rounded up some members of the #FixTheCountry campaigners in the premises of the Court Complex in Accra. This came after some of the members of the #FixTheCountry team were seen holding cards with inscriptions, in what the group later described as silent protest in favour of the ongoing court case involving the Ghana Police Service and the group.

Narrating the incident days after, Effia Odo said “I was inside the courtroom and the judge called for a recess that we should come back at 1:30 to get our final verdict. So, as I came outside, obviously a lot of campaigners were outside to support and they wanted to take pictures

She said it was at the time of having the photo session with her fans that the Police came to pick her together with other members of the group who were holding the placards in front of the court.

According to her, “heavily armed Police Officers came to arrest me and my colleagues treating us as if we were criminals when there were no grounds for the arrest

I am a public figure and they wanted to show their support. A lot of commotion was going on and all of a sudden we see police come with their guns as if we were criminals and they just aggressively pulled us in,” she explained.

Effia Odo however said the arrest and other ‘intimidations’ by the Police will not in any way deter them from achieving their purpose for the #FixTheCountry campaign.
