Member of Parliament for Wa West in the Upper West Region Peter Lanchene Toobu has saluted three past Inspector Generals of Police. His intention of salute according to him was due to the seeming violent crimes that is threatening the peace and security of the country.

As violent crime threatens national peace and security, I salute the following IGPs with nostalgia

Peter Lanchene Toobu

The Wa West MP, who until his retirement to join partisan politics was himself a serving officer with the rank of Superintendent.

The three IGPs being hailed by Mr. Toobu are Mr. Peter T. Nanfuri, who is now referred to by his Chieftaincy title as Naa Ansoley Gana II. The second on the list of the Wa West Legislator is Mr. Mohammed A. Alhassan and the third is the immediate past Boss of the Ghana Police Service Mr. David Asante-Apeatu.

Mohammed A Alhassan

For him, one common trait that runs through the three Police Chiefs, is their unwillingness to bend the rules on recruitment due to imminent consequences. “If they are unpopular in any corner, this could be the latent reason. It was however to ensure that police professionalism is maintained and sustained” former Police Officer stated.

In eulogizing the three former IGPs, below is what Mr. Peter Lanchene Toobu has to say about his former bosses:

Peter Nanfuri
  1. Naa Ansoley Gana II (Mr. Peter T Nanfuri): He defended the principle that says officers’ morale is inversely related to crime rate. He led by example. His name resonates confidence. He is seen as the IGP of the century.
  2. Mr. Mohammed A Alhassan: A task-oriented man of integrity who believed in the use of Police Visibility to manage crime. He kicked out 50% of personnel from offices onto the streets to support Patrols. He believed in having a Service anchored on 3 major pillars; Patrol, Traffic & Investigation with not more than 10% of total strength as Administrative staff.
  3. Mr. David Asante-Apeatu: He believed in sharpening the human skills of commanders to promote Citizen-friendly Policing. He saw the need for reforms to create a democratic police institution and went further to launch the Police Transformation Agenda. He has unparalleled human skills.
David Apeatu

The gallant officers of the Ghana Police Service (both active and retired) hold you in high esteem. Ayekooooo” his salutes concluded.
