Ethiopia’s army denied on Thursday that it carried out fatal airstrikes targeting people in Togogo, a town in the Tigray region.

We haven’t carried out air strikes on a market place. How can this be? The army has the capability to hit targets with precision,” said Colonel Getnet Adane, a spokesman for the Ethiopian Defense Forces.

He did, however, acknowledge that air attacks were launched against insurgents operating near Togogo town.

Therefore, the allegations of market attacks are completely false

According to him, the bombings targeted solely rebels who had come to commemorate Martyrs’ Day.

Moreover, the military officer denied allegations that yesterday’s assault killed innocent civilians.

He said that those murdered were militants disguised as civilians.

However, eyewitnesses and medical sources informed reporters yesterday that around 50 people were killed in Tuesday’s aerial bombing.

The attacks occurred a day after the Tigray Defence Forces (TDF) claimed ‘major’ victory against partnered Ethiopian and Eritrean forces.

Colonel Getnet Adane, however, denied claims that Tigrinya troops had seized control of critical locations, including Adigrat, a strategic town located about 45 kilometers from the Eritrean border.
