The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of St Andrews Senior High School (SHS), Dr. Richard Kofi Asiedu, has called on owners of businesses, particularly those in the education sector, not to become negligent regarding the COVID-19 safety protocols.

He said the fact that Ghana might not be among the heavily affected countries did not mean protocol measures and basic hygiene practices must neglected.

Dr Asiedu said this when the St Andrews Senior High received two awards at this year’s Health, Environmental, Safety and Security (HESS) Awards held in Accra.

The school received the award as the most secure facility and outstanding academic performance for the 2021 in the private high school category.

The HESS award scheme is designed to identify and publicly recognise and celebrate outstanding companies for exceptional performance and innovation focused on occupational Health, the Environment and Employee and Stakeholders Safety and Security.

This year’s event was on the theme: “Recognising, Outstanding Achievement and Celebrating business Excellence and Innovation focused on Occupational Health, Safety, Security and Environment”.

The organisers of the event, Ianmatsun Global Services, said the health, safety and the well-being of employees, event attendees, among others, remained a top priority as COVID-19 continued to impact the people and countries around the world.

According to them, COVID-19 remained a global challenge and the need for businesses to deal with the realities was non-negotiable.

It’s incumbent on us all to remain aware and vigilant of this public health threat,” the group said.

Members also called on businesses to play their part in maintaining a healthy and safe event and take all COVID-19 protocol measures seriously.

Dr Asiedu said in order to win the battle against COVID-19, conscious efforts must be made to ensure that good hygiene and other safety protocols were followed duly in all sectors.

Businesses and institutions should never underestimate the virus, considering the damage it has caused in some countries,“ he stressed.
