Residents of Bontibor, a suburb of Nkwanta in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region, could not hold back their tears of joy during the commissioning of telecommunication mast to serve the community and its surrounding areas.

This was part of promises made to the community by the current Member of Parliament for Nkwanta South Constituency, Geoffrey Kini when he was approached by the community leaders during the 2020 campaign season, to help solve the over century and half problem.

This community and many others have been without network for a very long time and during my rounds in 2020 elections, I promised them that I will lobby for it and that is what has happened, Mr. Kini happily said.

As you can see they are happy and some of them are crying. It is tears of joy because they can also now make calls, that is my satisfaction

A ceremony held in the community witnessed a remarkable atmosphere where the entire community expressed appreciation to the MP for making history in the area.

According to some residents, Mr. Kini during his campaign tour to the area, met with them as they put before him one major challenge confronting the community, thus lack of network.

We will now make calls and surf the internet for information” an elated opinion leader narrated.

The MP for Nkwanta South Constituency, further promised to do all he can to bring development to the constituency as well as support provide solutions to social and economic challenges confronting the area.

He also used the occasion to assure communities such as Ofosu, Tutukpene, Ashiabre, Keri among others, that they will also be linked up to network connectivity soon.

My target actually is to develop the constituency step by step and I will need their corporation as well

Although Ghana is one of the countries with high mobile penetration in West Africa and already outperforms many of its regional peers with 16.7 million unique mobile subscribers, 15.1 million smartphone devices and 10.7 million mobile internet users, as of third quarter of 2019, yet many rural communities are still not able to access mobile network services.

The Sustainable development Goal 9 enjoins countries to building resilient infrastructure and fostering innovation, particularly through increasing access to ICT.
