Three persons have been confirmed dead after a mining pit collapsed on them at Breman, a mining community in the Upper Denkyira West District of the Central Region.

The three unnamed persons, a man, a woman, and a 10-year-old girl are among those who have died, whilst forty more people between the ages of 24 and 35 are believed to be trapped in the pit.

Isaac Gyasi, Director of National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) at Upper Denkyira West told a local radio station that the incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, May 26.

He stated the miners were trapped in a galamsey pit on the outskirts of a town known as Breman Lockmu.

Mr Gyasi went on to say that his organization is working hard to locate individuals who are trapped and save as many lives as possible.

NADMO rescuing casualties

In the meantime, the deceased’s bodies have been taken to the Dunkwa-On-Offin Government Hospital for preservation, identification, and autopsy.
