The city of Gdansk in Poland is preparing to host the 2021 UEFA Europa League final between England’s Manchester United and Spain’s Villarreal on Wednesday.
The final is expected to draw up to 9,500 spectators to the stadium. According to the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), both finalists received 2,000 tickets apiece while 2,000 general public tickets were sold via UEFA.com.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will strive to win his first trophy as Manchester United boss in Poland, believing that a win will reinvigorate a new era of success at Old Trafford. Solskjaer would be relying on his ‘creator-in-chief’, Bruno Fernandes, who scored nine goals and provided five assists in Europe this season, to deliver his first trophy since joining the side as a manager.
Meanwhile, Unai Emery would add to his already illustrious Europa League record if Villarreal win but a victory for his side will also transform a somewhat disappointing first season in charge of the club into a fantastic one.
Emery who joined Villareal in 2020 won the UEFA Europa League title in three successive seasons with Sevilla from 2014 to 2016 but missed out on a fourth triumph as his Arsenal side lost the 2019 final to Chelsea. He would be looking forward to winning the trophy for the first time in the club’s history.
The match will take place on Wednesday, May 26 at 19:00 GMT
