Details are emerging that the former Director of Operations at the National Security, Lieutenant Colonel Frank Agyeman who was found to have assaulted Citi FM/TV journalist Caleb Kudah, has been appointed as the Commanding Officer of the 64 Infantry Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces. This came after Lt. Col. Frank Agyeman and three Police Officers were withdrawn from the National Security pending investigation into what the Ministry of National Security in a press statement referred to as “acting in contravention to the ethics of their office”.

Although the minister’s statement dated May 20, 2021 stated that the officer was under investigation, sources at the Ghana Armed Forces said Lt. Col. Frank Agyeman was appointed as Commanding Officer of the 64 Infantry Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces on May 21, 2020.

Some key individuals who had earlier condemned the actions of Lt. Col. Frank Agyeman, have expressed revulsion over the current turn of event. One of such individuals is the Executive Director for Jatikay Centre for Human Security and Peace Building, Adib Saani. He said this will mean rewarding Lt. Col. Frank Agyeman for his actions, a situation he said will be insulting to the conscience of Ghanaians.

“More officers will do even worse, if this is true, because if one of them is rewarded for that dastardly act, what does that mean, what does that tell us. It will be dangerous for us” he lamented.

Meanwhile, when Mynewsafric reached the Director of Public Relations for the Ghana Armed Forces Colonel Eric Aggrey-Quarshie on phone for clarifications, he said “I have seen the story but I don’t want to comment on it. I have seen everything but that is why I said I won’t make comment on it”.
