The 2020 running mate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyeman has presented food stuff to inmates at the Leli Dabari witches camp in the Gushegu Municipality of the Northern Region.

The items include some 50 bags of rice, 20 bags of maize, several gallons of cooking oil, gallons of liquid soap, several cartons of drinking water, sanitary pads and used clothing.

Addressing the inmates, the NDC 2020 running mate indicated that the donation was part of the activities to celebrate her 70th birthday.

Prof. Jane Naana while expressing worry over the poor living conditions of the inmates at the various witch camps in the country, said it was crucial for society to remember and show care to the less privileged instead of accusing them as being witches.

“I want to remind all of us that when we pray for long life we also pray to live in peace, we don’t pray that with the long life, we move away from our families and go to environment where we don’t have water, no food and we don’t even know what we are doing”.

“My interest is to find out why this is happening and reduce it to the best minimum if not to get rid of it, because everybody deserves to leave a dignified live, let us rethink the kind of country we want and know that, that country this sort of things does not occur”, she added.

“As Africans, we know how to take care of each other no matter how difficult things are, no matter how little you have we know how to share, let us not get to a level why we think this is acceptable, this is not acceptable at all, everybody should come on board and support”, Prof Naana further explained.

Prof Jane Nana in her presentation also pledged to sustain her support to the inmates, “we want you to know that this is not a one-off thing if God permit, we will come and support you again”.

Caretaker of the camp, Banabas Dalabra, who received the donation thanked the NDC running mate for the gesture and praised her for the generosity and affection shown towards the inmates.

Meanwhile Prof Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman before presenting the items also interacted with the NDC constituency executives of Gushegu and some party supporters where she urged them to leave in harmony to ensure they bring back the party into power come 2024.

She also paid a courtesy call on the paramount Chief of the Gushegu traditional area, Naa Abdulai Shitobo
