Ghana Women’s Premier League champions, Secondi Hasaacas Ladies launched their CAF Women’s Champions League campaign in a grand style after defeating the females of Malabo Kings FC, 3-1 in their group opener.

The Railway Ladies, Hasaacas, who are participating in the maiden edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League after being crowned champions of WAFU Zone B Women’s Champions League, proved too strong for the ladies from Equatorial Guinea capital, Malabo.

Woman of the match, Evelyn Badu, who is now the first Ghanaian to score in a CAF Women’s Champions League competition, gave Hasaacas the lead in the 11th minute with a calm finish — a low drive into the bottom corner of Malabo’s net.

Hasaacas — the first Ghanaian team to participate and to score in the CAF Women’s Champions League — breezed through the rest of the first half with ease and showed class on the field.

Yusif Basigi’s women took the game to Malabo Kings in the second half, just as they did in the first, with Perpetual Agyekum stunning everyone when she increased Hasaacas’ lead with a straight freekick in the 86th minute.

Malabo cut the lead in half with a corner kick a few seconds later.

The Capital City Queens hoped to stage a stunning comeback with some brilliant performances as the game neared its conclusion but the blazing Evelyn Badu put an end to such ideas in the 92nd minute, when she calmly deposited the ball in Malabo’s net to clinch Hasaacas’ victory.

Badu made history by becoming the first player in the competition to achieve a brace.

Hasaacas will play their second group game against Mali’s AS Mande who earlier lost to Egypt’s Wadi Degla, 3-1 in the competitions opener. Matchday 2 will be played on November 8.
