Popular Reggae and Dancehall artiste, Article Wan, known in real life as Bright Homenya has disclosed that when it comes to stage performance, he is the most contacted artiste by event organizers in Ghana.

In an interview with Sammy Flex, host of Showbiz Agenda on Zylofon 102.1 FM, the ‘Ngenge’ hit maker said he does not choose indiscriminately, but rather honors the invite of all event organizers.

I play shows more than any other artiste in Ghana. Some (artiste) are there when you call them to come and perform, they won’t come, but I can even go to ‘Tumu’ to perform. Do you (artiste) have any fans there? Not like the other artiste who are on social media daily, for social media they have fans, but do you have fans at Tumu?” he asked.

The musician however expressed his worry over shows been put on a hold due to some of the precautionary measures to help stop the spread of Corona Virus (COVID-19) in the country. According to him, the shows they play, bring in more money than the streaming platforms, adding that it is beginning to make him “sick”.

Because there are no shows, I can be there ahhh and it’s like I am sick. That is the reason I don’t release songs currently. My type of songs are for the streets. There are a lot of my songs waiting to be released, but I am not motivated to release them. We are supposed to be using #fixthemusicindustry. I am not impressed by the money I make for streams“.

I make more money when I perform than the streaming platforms. We as musicians are many and the trends keep changing. So the person the trend settles on makes more money. It doesn’t matter if you are Sarkodie. We are all struggling in the social media space. I enjoy stage performance, aside the money it gives me satisfaction,” he added.

Article Wan in late May, released a new single titled ‘No Way’ featuring Tulenkey. The new single has gained quickness airplay in the media, but has received critique from entertainment pundits. According to them, Article Wan sampled an instrumental done by Nigerian musician Don Jazzy’s ‘Adaobi’ which was released in 2014.

Replying to these claims, the ‘Ngenge’ hitmaker told Sammy Flex that he did not ‘copy’ the beats but rather took inspiration from the song ‘Adaobi’. According to him, “I listen to Don Jazzy all the time. With music, I feel we should go back and listen to some old songs that made hits and make them new. I learnt something from the old song and reproduced it. I only took inspiration from ‘Adaobi’. The way people are saying I copied is a problem. Because I produced the song myself and I twisted some bars.”

Sometimes you can produce a song, go to the studio and someone has produced a similar song. Sometimes some artiste jump on your vibe. I produced this song which was released and I later heard Kuami Eugene jumping on my vibe” Article Wan concluded.
