Ghanaian singer Mr. Drew says he did not find any nominee in the VGMA ‘New Artiste of the Year’ category as a competitor. He made this known in an interview with Sammy Flex host of Showbiz Agenda on Zylofon FM.

According to him, he felt he has worked hard in the year under review and the award was well deserving.

I did not see anyone as a competitor. No disrespect to any artist who was nominated in that category, but I feel I worked hard and deserved it.”

Gyakie, Yaw TOG, Camidoh among others were nominated in this category.

The singer added that “all my songs are bangers (hit songs), and I appreciate the fact that my songs were noticed. I invested in the award, though other people may like your craft and vote for you, I saw the need to vote for myself. I voted for myself, I put money into it.”

Mr. Drew noted that, he was the only artiste who came on stage and the audience were on their feet throughout the performance and he did not take that for granted.

He said “I felt I could have performed better on stage in terms of vocals. No artiste in Ghana can combine dance and singing and still deliver well in terms of vocals. Singing and dancing at the same time is like jogging and singing.”

The artist hinted that he will be dropping an album soon but will release a song with Kidi first.

Mr. Drew won the ‘New Artiste of the Year’ category in the just ended VGMA’s.
