Timely intervention by the Police in Elmina has saved a man said to be a notorious cable thief from lynching after he was caught by vigilant residence of Pershie, a suburb of Elmina in the Central Region.
The suspect whose name is given as Joe, according to residence is noted for stealing cables belonging to network providers as well as those belonging to Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
Luck however run out his time when he attempted to steal cables at one of the cell sites belonging to MTN in the region. He was spotted by some residence who pursued and caught him, tied him up and was getting ready to torch him when the Police arrived.
An eyewitness account has it that, the suspect said he decided to cut the cables, sell them to fend for himself. Although, he tried pleading with the angry residence, with a promise to turn over a new leaf, his pleas were not taken as they were bent on incinerating the suspect.
He was even said to have cut cables belonging to some of the radio stations in Elmina and has been on the Police wanted list.
The suspect has been taken into custody by the Elmina Police for further investigations and possible prosecution.
